The Alliance Française de Singapour was founded in 1949 and is a part of the 1,085 Alliance Françaises operating around the world in 138 countries, which receive more than 350,000 students every year. As a non-profit educational organisation, the Alliance Française de Singapour is affiliated to the Paris headquarters, but is managed by a Board elected in Singapore and is presided over by Dr. Shaw Vee Meng, Chairman of the Shaw Foundation. (The People behind the Alliance)

The Alliance Française de Singapour has many facilities; a modern theatre with advanced audio-visual systems, the SG Private Banking Gallery (well-known for bringing together some of the best European and Asian artistic traditions), a ‘Médiathèque’ (with a collection of more than 18,000 books, CD’s, DVD’s, videos), a Seminar room with full conferencing facilities and of course, an e-learning platform and a multi-media language laboratory. Last but not least is the monthly newsletter ‘Lien’, which has undergone a complete revamp to serve as a key communications tool of the Alliance Française de Singapour.

A rich and diverse Cultural life
Its mission is to not only be known as a premier French language school but to also serve as a cultural centre, promoting inter-cultural dialogue and understanding through different channels. The Alliance Française de Singapour forms an integral part of the rich cultural life of this City-State and is committed to the development of artistic dialogue through a host of cultural events that stretch across the calendar year.

Every year, the Alliance organises several events like the Francophone Festival, the Fête de la Musique and the Singapore French Film Festival. In fact, some of these events like the Singapore French Film Festival have become established features of the Singapore social calendar.

Aside these events, regular exhibitions of international artists like Kellestom, Marios Pittas and others are held in the SG Private Banking Gallery.

Many of these events are held in partnership with the French Embassy and other well-known international cultural institutions.

In order to be known as an excellent academic centre and a vibrant cultural centre serving the needs of the community, the Alliance relies on the generosity of sponsors and donors. All funds raised will help the Alliance pay for its cultural events or help maintain its facilities. This cannot be done by funds recovered through student fees or proceeds from its cultural activities alone.

Companies/Individuals can choose to help us by sponsoring renovation, maintenance or upgrading of our facilities with a tax deductible donation to our Building Fund. They can also sponsor one of our cultural events in different ways.

We know that our facilities would not have been built without the help of our sponsors.

We also know that our cultural life would be poorer, but for the financial support of our partners and sponsors.

We thank all our past sponsors for their belief in our projects and we look forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership with our sponsors.
