As part of the 2023 edition of the Francophonie Festival, the Francophonie Day took place this Saturday 25 March 2023. For this day, Alliance Française de Singapour was in full swing to celebrate the diversity and richness of Francophonie and Francophone cultures around different events.

Discover more about this day full of surprises and entertainment!

Talks with Grégory Nicolas

The day started on a literary and sporting note with talks between our students and the French author Grégory Nicolas. Grégory Nicolas was at Alliance Française de Singapour to present his book Équipiers, released in 2019, on the theme of Sport and more specifically on cycling. Passionate about cycling since his childhood, he dedicated this book to teammates, these men in the shadow who sacrifice their ambitions to help their leaders.

His book is available in our Médiathèque (level 2).

Francophone-EAT in our Galerie

Our gallery was turned for the day into a market for the Francophone-EAT. Countries member of the Francophonie settled booths with their local food and specialties. Visitors moved around the different booths and tasted some food from different countries such as Greece, Mexico, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, France, Canada! Food lovers got to try cheeses at the Swiss booth, different olive oils and honeys at the Greek one and a delicious guacamole at the Mexican booth!

For many visitors, it was the occasion to discover new specialties and food from many countries. Francophone-Eat showcased the culinary diversity and richness of different countries part of the Francophonie.

This event full of flavours ended with a cocktail with the ambassadors of the Francophonie. The cocktail was preceded by speeches from Her Excellency Ms Minh-di TANG, Ambassador of France to Singapore and His Excellency Mr Agustín García-López, Ambassador of Mexico to Singapore and President of the Francophonie this year and Yoann Lecourieux, member of the government of New Caledonia. Around a glass of Champagne and some fingerfood, Ambassadors reaffirmed their attachment to the diversity of Francophonie and its core values.

Games around Francophonie: Olympiads and Quiz in our Theater

215 students, from Alliance Française and other universities and schools of Singapore, took part to the game of the day: the Olympiads of the Francophonie! Divided into 47 teams, they had to move around 15 booths dedicated to different Francophone countries and answer to 4 questions so that they could get a stamp on their Passeport de la Francophonie. The purpose was to get most of the stamps in as little time as possible to enjoy the Francophone-EAT event in the Gallery afterwards!

It was the perfect occasion for students to test their knowledges and learn more about member countries of the Francophonie in a fun and educational way!

After this breathless race, teams gathered in our theater for the Quiz de la Francophonie. This quiz, animated by Émeline and Anne-Sophie with the support of the Language center team, was a battle between the different teams in which they had to answer to questions about Francophonie via Kahoot.

We would like to thank all the teams who put a lot in finding the correct answers! This was a great moment of conviviality and sharing around Francophonie, its different cultures but also its role and weight today in the world!
